Annual Draper Winter Wheat Meeting Aug. 23

The Jones County Crop Improvement Association, along with SDSU Extension will be hosting the Annual Winter Wheat Meeting in Draper Aug. 23 at the Draper Auditorium. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. (CST).

"This is a long standing and popular event among winter wheat producers," said Ruth Beck, SDSU Extension agronomy field specialist of the event that celebrates its 30th anniversary. "This meeting provides growers with the most recent South Dakota State University wheat variety trial results, as well as other information on winter wheat production in South Dakota."

Registration is not required for the event. A meal, sponsored by numerous donors, will be served.

"We are hoping to see some old and new faces at the meeting this year," said Paul Patterson, Jones Crop Improvement Association chair.

Speakers this year will include:

- Dwayne Beck, manager of the Dakota Lakes Research Farm. Beck will discuss the valuable contributions that wheat makes to a crop rotation.

- Chris Graham, SDSU Extension agronomist and Jon Kleinjan, SDSU Extension crop production associate. Graham and Kleinjan will discuss the 2018 South Dakota State University Winter Wheat Variety Trial results and other ongoing wheat research from across the state.
