Krause Brothers Host New Hog Barn Open House Today
South Dakota Ag Connection - 08/24/2016

Brent and Adam Krause, along with Ag United for South Dakota and the South Dakota Pork Producers, will be hosting an open house at their new hog barn on Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The free event invites guests to tour the new, 2,400 head hog barn and to enjoy a free meal with the Krause family.

Brothers, Brent and Adam Krause, built this hog barn with the intent of being able to return to the family farm. This finishing barn will allow the family to bring in the next generation and will provide opportunities for their operation to grow.

This style of building keeps the pigs out of the extreme South Dakota weather, and allows the Krause's to keep a close eye on the pig's health. As in all facilities such as this, biosecurity will be of the utmost importance to help keep the hog's healthy and productive. In addition, the building is climate controlled and completely automated, keeping the pigs comfortable and healthy 365 days a year.

More than 900 South Dakota families raise more than 2.3 million pigs each year. Hogs produced in South Dakota consume over 250,000 tons of soybean meal each year. Pork production and hog processing account for a $2.2 Billion impact on South Dakota's economy. Visit South Dakota Pork Producers Council to learn more about pork production and find great recipes that include pork.

The barn is located 3 miles west of Clear Lake on HWY 22. Look for the big, red roof! Visit agunited.org, like South Dakota Farm Families on Facebook, or follow @SDFarmFamilies on Twitter for more information.

This event is sponsored in part by Ag United for South Dakota, South Dakota Pork Producers, and South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council and the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council.

Ag United was developed through a collaboration of farm organizations that support livestock production and development and includes the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association, the South Dakota Corn Growers Association, South Dakota Dairy Producers, South Dakota Farm Bureau, South Dakota Pork Producers Council, South Dakota Poultry Industries Association and the South Dakota Soybean Association.
