Majority of South Dakota Crops Rated Good to Excellent

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 15 short, 74 adequate, and 8 surplus. Subsoi moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 19 short, 71 adequate, and 6 surplus.

Corn condition rated 2 percent very poor, 4 poor, 20 fair, 56 good, and 18 excellent. Corn silking was 10 percent, ahead of 2 last year and 5 for the five-year average.

Soybean condition rated 2 percent very poor, 6 poor, 24 fair, 56 good, and 12 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 30 percent, near 27 last year and 31 average. Setting pods was 1 percent, equal to last year, and near 2 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 4 percent very poor, 9 poor, 40 fair, 45 good, and 2 excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 2 percent, behind 13 last year and 7 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 3 percent very poor, 11 poor, 35 fair, 47 good, and 4 excellent. Spring wheat headed was 90 percent, behind 97 last year, and near 91 average.

Oats condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 24 fair, 65 good, and 7 excellent. Oats headed was 95 percent, near 97 last year and 93 average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 1 poor, 18 fair, 79 good, and 1 excellent. Sorghum headed was 5 percent, near 3 last year and 8 average.

Sunflowers planted was 96 percent, near 100 last year and 99 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 31 fair, 53 good, and 6 excellent.
