New Sheep Facility Announced for South Dakota State Fair
South Dakota Ag Connection - 07/28/2023

The South Dakota State Fair Foundation received a $30,000 grant from the Women In Network Growing Stronger (WINGS) Foundation for the 'Raise The SHED' fundraising campaign. The campaign aims to build a new facility at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, called "The SHED," for Open Class Sheep and an interactive educational center.

Dawn Mutchelknaus, President of the WINGS Foundation Board of Directors, emphasized the foundation's dedication to family structure and preserving the Midwest way of life for future generations of South Dakota families. By participating in The SHED construction, the foundation promotes agriculture opportunities and the state's rich agricultural history.

The ambitious fundraising goal of $3 million aims to cover a portion of the total project cost, which is approximately $8 million. The 'Raise The SHED' campaign offers various donor opportunities for individuals and organizations, such as naming rights for the show arena and sponsorships on the donor wall.

The former Open Class Sheep Barn has already been demolished, and project planning and design for The SHED are currently underway. The organizers plan to hold a ceremony during the 2024 State Fair, signifying the start of this exciting venture.
