S.D. Farmers Get Nearly 5 Days for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 2 short, 72 adequate, and 26 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 1 short, 72 adequate, and 27 surplus.

Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 38 fair, 48 good, and 8 excellent. Corn planted was 95 percent, behind 100 both last year and for the five-year average. Emerged was 79 percent, well behind 100 last year and 99 average.

Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 40 fair, 49 good, and 6 excellent. Soybeans planted was 84 percent, behind 100 last year and 99 average. Emerged was 57 percent, well behind 97 last year and 96 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 27 fair, 61 good, and 6 excellent. Winter wheat headed was 80 percent, behind 93 last year and 94 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 22 fair, 68 good, and 9 excellent. Spring wheat headed was 10 percent, well behind 64 last year and 57 average.

Oats condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 40 fair, 50 good, and 9 excellent. Oats emerged was 95 percent, behind 100 both last year and average. Headed was 16 percent, well behind 74 last year and 72 average.

Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 26 fair, 71 good, and 2 excellent. Sorghum planted was 92 percent, near 94 last year and 91 average.

Sunflowers planted was 82 percent, near 85 last year and 84 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 15 fair, 61 good, and 21 excellent.
