U.S. Senate Resolution Honors American Cowboys
South Dakota Ag Connection - 07/01/2016

Senator John Hoeven Thursday announced that the Senate has passed a resolution declaring July 23 as National Day of the American Cowboy. Hoeven cosponsored the resolution, introduced by Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., to honor cowboys across the United States.

"Cowboys have shaped our nation's history and culture through their grit and independent spirit," Hoeven said. "North Dakota author Louis L'Amour said, 'Nobody got anywhere in the world by simply being content,' and the American cowboy embodies the same spirit of hard work and aspiration their predecessors demonstrated. The National Day of the American Cowboy acknowledges this legacy."

Other cosponsors of the resolution are Senators John Barrasso, R-Wyo., John Cornyn, R-Texas, Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., James Lankford, R-Okla., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Harry Reid, R-Nev., James Risch, R-Idaho, Mike Rounds, R-S.D., Jon Tester, D-Mont., John Thune, R-S.D. and Tom Udall, D-N.M.
