Environmental Training Session for Agricultural Operators in South Dakota

An upcoming environmental training session for operators of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) is scheduled to take place on June 28 at the Crossroads Convention Center in Huron, South Dakota.

The training, organized by specialists from South Dakota State University Extension, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, aims to provide valuable insights and information to participants.

Throughout the program, attendees will have the opportunity to learn from a range of experts in the field. Topics covered will include livestock nutrition options for managing nitrogen and phosphorus content of manure, water quality management, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources' livestock permit program, effective land application of manure, soil erosion and infiltration, and air quality and odor control.

Participants can expect to gain practical knowledge and discover new practices that can be adopted to improve various aspects related to land application, livestock feeding, air quality, and soil conservation.

The training session, which starts at 8:45 a.m. CST and concludes around 4:45 p.m., requires registration through the extension https://extension.sdstate.edu/event/environmental-training-cafos-june . The registration fee of $50 covers lunch, breaks, and training materials.

While the training is mandatory for permit holders, individuals involved in manure application, agricultural production, or those with a general interest in the subject are encouraged to attend and benefit from the valuable information shared.
