S.D. Farmers Get 4 Day Suitable for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 20% short, 56% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 28% short, 54% adequate, and 6% surplus.

Corn planted was 31%, well behind 83% last year and 54% for the fiveyear average. Emerged was 1%, behind 17% last year and 12% average.

Soybeans planted was 15%, well behind 61% last year, and behind 28% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3% very poor, 21% poor, 52% fair, 23% good, and 1% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 78%, behind 96% last year and 84% average. Emerged was 43%, well behind 74% last year, and behind 53% average.

Oats planted was 74%, well behind 95% last year, and behind 83% average. Emerged was 40%, well behind 68% last year, and behind 58% average.

Sorghum planted was 11%, near 9% last year and 10% average.

Sunflowers planted was 1%, equal to last year, and near 2% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 17% very poor, 27% poor, 41% fair, 15% good, and 0% excellent.
