2019 S.D. Eggs Down $24 Million, Turkeys Up $25 Million

The value of egg production in South Dakota during 2019 was $39.5 million, down $24.3 million from $63.8 million in 2018, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Egg production in 2019 was estimated at 854 million eggs, up 56.1 million from the previous year. Average number of layers for 2019 at 2.76 million was up 159,000 from 2018.
South Dakota producers raised 4.50 million turkeys in 2019, up 300,000 birds from 2018. The value of this production was $116 million in 2019, up $25.6 million from $90.4 million in 2018.
Pounds produced in 2019 totaled 200 million, up 23.0 million from 177 million pounds produced in 2018.
