Horse Nation of the Ochethi Sakowin Opens Tonight
South Dakota Ag Connection - 04/27/2017

The South Dakota Art Museum is hosting a free Opening Reception for the Horse Nation of the Ochethi Sakowin exhibition April 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. The opening celebration will begin outside the art museum with a Horse Nation honoring ceremony to include the dressing of a horse with artist James Star Comes Out (Titonwan Oglala Lakota). Refreshments will be served inside following the outdoor activities.

This exhibition is organized by The Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian School (Pine Ridge), in partnership with artist Keith BraveHeart (Oglala Lakota). Original artworks from people of the Ochethi Sakowin (Lakota, Dakota, Nakota) that are related to and inspired by the Sunka Wakhan Oyate (Horse Nation) were collected through a community informed process, open call and/or invitation.

The exhibition will be at the South Dakota Art Museum through Aug. 20. Admission to the museum is free.
