S.D. Egg Production Down, But Value Up $10.2 Million

The value of egg production in South Dakota during 2015 was $73.5 million, up $10.2 million from the $63.3 million in 2014, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Egg production in 2015 was estimated at 603 million eggs, down 149 million from the previous year.
Average number of layers for 2015 at 2.08 million was down 556,000 from one year ago.
South Dakota producers raised 4.30 million turkeys in 2015, down 200,000 head from 2014. The value of this production was $147 million in 2015, up $9.24 million from $137.9 million in 2014. Pounds produced in 2015 totaled 181 million, down 6.19
million from the 187 million pounds produced in 2014.
