IPFW Professor Presents on Emerald Ash Borer
South Dakota Ag Connection - 03/22/2017

Associate Professor of Biology at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Jordan Marshall, Ph.D., gave a presentation titled "Managing Host and Pest Relationships: Using Emerald Ash Borer Preferences to Detect Infestations and Predict Tree Survival" on the University of South Dakota campus.

"It's in Iowa. It's in Nebraska. It's likely to start hitting South Dakota soon. Early detection is essential," said Marshall, referencing the invasive Emerald Ash Borer.

Marshall, whose research has focused on Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania, has worked with the Emerald Ash Borer for the last 10 years in an attempt to tell its story.

"Understanding a pest and understanding its host and using that information to make management decisions is important. If we find ways to manage the host, we might be able to find ways to minimize the pests' impact," said Marshall.

The lecture was sponsored by the USD Department of Biology as part of an ongoing series of guest speakers.
