97 Percent of South Dakota Winter Wheat Emerged

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 14% very short, 39% short, 47% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 18% very short, 42% short, 40% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 33% fair, 60% good, and 4% excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 97%, near 99% for both last year and the five-year average.

Sunflowers harvested was 89%, well ahead of 57% last year, and ahead of 82% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 14% very poor, 20% poor, 48% fair, 18% good, and 0% excellent.
