Unemployment Insurance Warns of Unofficial Websites
South Dakota Ag Connection - 02/10/2016

The Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) warns individuals of unofficial websites offering assistance in filing for unemployment benefits. These websites request credit card information and charge a fee for providing advice or job services to individuals.

"We ensure our services are secure with your personal information," said state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman. "These websites are not associated with South Dakota state government and could put you at risk for identity theft."

There is no need to share confidential information with a third party or pay a fee to file for unemployment insurance benefits. Claims for unemployment insurance benefits should be filed on the DLR website at www.sd.uiclaims.com or by phone at 605-626-3179.

Unemployment insurance provides temporary financial assistance for people who have lost their jobs, through no fault of their own, until they find employment. South Dakota's unemployment insurance program is financed by employers through payroll taxes; workers do not contribute to this plan.
