Nordby Exhibit Hall Takes Shape at Fairgrounds
South Dakota Ag Connection - 02/10/2016

As you look to the western side of the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, the skyline has a noticeable addition to it, the Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth and Community.

Located where Clover Hall formerly stood, the exhibit hall's construction began mid-2015. When finished, the 48,000-square-foot structure will feature 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, multiple classrooms and a large kitchen for 4-H Special Foods competitions. The facility will be utilized year-round for 4-H activities such as learning activities, meetings and competitions. It will serve as the hub of 4-H during the annual State Fair.

In addition, community and regional events will take place in this building year-round. The facility will host conventions, trade shows, receptions and other gatherings throughout the year, bringing in an additional 200,000 visitors.

"It's very exciting to see the progress and building taking shape," stated Peggy Besch, SD State Fair manager. "It is a wonderful addition to the footprint of the fairgrounds and we are anxiously awaiting its completion. We are looking forward to being able to use the facility to serve as a showcase for 4-H."

The grand opening will take place during the 2016 South Dakota State Fair scheduled for Sept. 1-5.

Over the past few years, the SD State Fair Foundation has been carrying out a capital campaign for the exhibit hall. To date, nearly 1,000 donors have teamed up to raise more than $4.25 million of the $4.7 million goal. Donations of $1,000 are still able to be recognized with an engraved quartzite brick, which will be permanently placed on the grounds of the exhibit hall. Those interested in supporting the capital campaign are invited to contact the State Fair Foundation at 605-553-4251 or visit www.sdstatefairfoundation.com.

Agriculture is a major contributor to South Dakota's economy, generating $25.6 billion in annual economic activity and employing over 115,000 South Dakotans.
