S.D. Corn Forecast at Record 166 bu/Acre

Based on November 1 conditions, South Dakota's 2018 corn crop is forecast at 822 million bushels, up 12 percent from last year's production, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Acreage harvested for grain is estimated at 4.95 million acres, down 3 percent from a year ago. Average yield is forecast at a record high 166 bushels per acre, up 21.0 bushels from last year.

Soybean production is forecast at a record high 275 million bushels, up 14 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 5.61 million acres, is unchanged from 2017. Yield is forecast at 49 bushels per acre, up 6 bushels from last year.

Sorghum for grain production is forecast at 14.3 million bushels, up 23 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 190,000 acres, is up 12 percent from 2017. Yield is forecast at 75 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels from last year.
