Governor and First Lady to Welcome Halloween Visitors
South Dakota Ag Connection - 10/26/2016

Gov. Dennis Daugaard and First Lady Linda Daugaard will give Halloween treats to children who come to trick-or-treat at the Governor's Mansion on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. CDT.

"Handing out Halloween treats at the Governor's Mansion is a long-standing custom in the capital city. Linda and I have enjoyed continuing this tradition and we look forward to seeing trick-or-treaters and their families," Gov. Daugaard said.

The Governor and First Lady expect to hand out 1,500 to 2,000 pieces of candy on Monday night, based on experience from past years.

The Governor asks children and parents across South Dakota to observe the following Halloween safety tips:

- Trick-or-treat during daylight hours or take a flashlight if going out after dark.

- Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags.

- Make sure vision is clear when wearing masks or other head garb.

- Adults should accompany young children; unaccompanied children should trick-or-treat in groups.

- Inspect candy before consuming; discard anything suspicious.
