SDDOT Awards Scholarship to SDSU Student

Brian Kidd, a junior in Civil Engineering at South Dakota State University in Brookings, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO).

For a second year, WASHTO granted each of the 18 member state departments of transportation a $1,000 scholarship to award to an individual seeking education and career opportunities in a transportation-related field.

Brian is from Owatonna, Minn., and worked as a civil engineering intern in the DOT Yankton area office this past summer. He said the SDDOT has given him a great first experience in the world of engineering and solidified his career choice.

Brian is a past member of the National Honor Society and a Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society inductee. He is active in his community and volunteers with the St. John's Lutheran Church youth group, Habitat for Humanity and is a volunteer youth hockey coach.
