South Dakotans Get Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 15 percent very short, 28 short, 55 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 16 percent very short, 27 short, 56 adequate, and 1 surplus.

Corn condition rated 6 percent very poor, 10 poor, 20 fair, 44 good, and 20 excellent. Corn dented was 90 percent, well ahead of 58 last year and 69 for the five-year average. Mature was 29 percent, well ahead of 4 last year, and ahead of 10 average.

Soybean condition rated 7 percent very poor, 10 poor, 24 fair, 46 good, and 13 excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 45 percent, well ahead of 25 last year, and ahead of 31 average. Harvested was 1 percent.

Winter wheat planted was 7 percent, near 4 last year, and equal to average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 32 fair, 62 good, and 1 excellent. Sorghum coloring was 61 percent, near 57 last year, but behind 74 average. Mature was 4 percent, behind 9 last year and 10 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 10 percent very poor, 15 poor, 30 fair, 40 good, and 5 excellent.
